These cut steel earrings are hand-made out of repurposed antique Victorian components from the 1860s with 14k gold ear wires. Cut steel is made of individually faceted and polished steel "stones" that are set on a brass or steel backing to create a glittering, pave effect that mimicked diamonds in the candle light. Like paste stones or pinchbeck, cut steel jewelry is highly regarded for the skill and labor taken to create these pieces. They were highly popular in their day and remain very collectible.
