From the late 1930s - early 1940s, this rare Hobe brooch is set with blue, pink and clear crystals with accents of his signature twisted rope filigree detail. Known for swagged and tasseled designs, this brooch features a two part design hung from crystal strands with inverted heart drops. Marked "Hobe" and "Design Pat'd". William Hobe actually hand crafted most of his jewelry from the 1930s-1950s. His meticulous methods of applying fine jewelry techniques to costume jewelry continued the tradition of his father who founded the original fine jewelry company in Paris. William launched the American part of the company in the late 1920s. He had a strong celebrity following, and his pieces were worn by the big stars of the 1940s-50s such as Bette Davis and Ava Gardner.
