This Victorian ambrotype from the 1880s features a young woman with classic ringlets. It is in a handsome traveling case with ornate pressed leather, velvet interior and a gilt frame. It is in very nice condition with its swing clasps intact although one loop is missing. Ambrotypes are less common than daguerreotypes or tintypes. These photos are positive images printed directly onto glass. They are backed with dark fabric or paper. They have a ghostly quality as they can only be viewed head on, when held at an angle, you only see the "ghost" of the image.
- Glass, wood, leather, velvet, gilt tin.
