September 17, 2014 Mother of Pearl Collaboration
For the Spring 2015 season, I collaborated with Mother of Pearl. Their tie to the art world has intrigued me from the day Maia Norman conceived the line. She has a strong understanding of bridging art and fashion in a way that remains refined but still provokes. Now designer Amy Powney collaborates with artists to design one-of-a-kind fabrics to pair with the methodical way in which she constructs an item. She consistently remains an artistic force. All of the above is why she has such a strong cult following in London and the World.
We worked to fuse a collection of jewelry that was strongly rooted in the 1950’s but with a serious nod towards a surreal context using vibrant matte colors, cutout floral shapes, and whimsical images of hand painted canaries and cats on Lucite rings.
The jewelry took center stage with the designs, and I’m proud to be part of such a strong brand for Spring 2015.
