December 29th, 2011 I'm Gaga for Vanity Fair

Lady Gaga graced the cover of December's Vanity Fair. I got to play dress up and assist with the jewels. It's shot by Annie Leibovitz. Lady Gaga gave the streets of NYC a couture twist.

November 8th, 2011 Nicki Minaj

Lady Gaga has a new rival! I got a kick out of seeing her wearing our cuffs on the cover of Cosmo. We've talked about her possibly being a future face of Alexis Bittar...

November 28th, 2011 My Home

The Observer ran a story on my home. I'd like to share some of my antique hunting techniques and a few notes on home cooking. I was pleased to see Franny get her picture taken since we just found out that she's 12 years old.

November 2nd, 2011 Sandra Bullock

Sandra Bullock busts out this MH Ring at AMFAR's Inspiration Gala. We're adding her to our favorites of our celebrity fan base. The Miss Havisham collection totally suits her. On a side note, I saw her movie "The Blind Side" and cried. I'm a sucker for a school/race relation themed movie. She was great in it.

October 24th, 2011 Antique Jewelry

I've been collecting antiques since I was 13. I used to go to Maine to an antique store in the woods. It was owned by Mrs. Ivers. She had rosy red cheeks and cotton ball hair and was really sweet. She introduced me to antiques from all of Maine. I started selling them on St. Mark's, which sounds crazy because it is. My parents didn't know what they were getting into.

I love antique jewelry because of the history they contain. I used to fantasize about the jewelry being passed down from generation to generation. I know that sounds like a crock of shit, but it's true. I've been obsessed with collecting; it gives me a lot of pleasure. It's a shame I'm not a girl because I'd be wearing it.

I decided to showcase some of the antiques I've been collecting in my stores and online. The jewelry comes from all over- Portobello Rd in London, Clignancourt in Paris and antique shows here in NYC. I'm always looking for antique jewelry that inspires me, whether through craftsmanship, technique or aesthetic.

Below are some examples of some pieces that I’ve been loving.

(In order of photos posted)

1) These earrings are 14k gold, pietra dura, Victorian 1880's. The design is accented by a mix of stone colors to create shapes. They're $1,600.

2) 14k blue enamel cufflinks from the 1930s. I'm always a big fan of antique cufflinks, they give a nod to an older world. There's also nothing more classic than blue enamel with a gold trim. These are $850.

3) This is an 1870s mourning pin with 18K gold wrapped with woven human hair, memento jewelry. This is one of my favorites but also the creepiest forms of jewelry. Victorian hair jewelry was made by women who would take their men's hair and weave it into jewelry as a memento. Since this one is an anchor, the woman's husband might have been in the Royal Navy. This pin is $950.

4) 1970's Aquamarine in 18k rose gold. Classic Sputnik setting, represented the age of Modernism. This is always a classic Modern design that embodies excitement about the future. This ring is $1,400.

October 27th, 2011 Collaborating with Martin Keehn

One of the best things about being a designer is you can collaborate with the most creative minds. Cut to Martin Keehn. Martin has worked as a master tailor for some of the best stylists and designers from Calvin Klein, Balenciaga, Michael Kors to celebrities such as David Bowie, Nicky Minaj and Ozzy Osbourne. He's known for his meticulous craftsmanship. He launched his own line and I got to participate in his trajectory by collaborating on 3 designs.

2) A leather and patent leather hand stitched necklace with faceted onyx trim.

3) And a black lace collar.

October 28th, 2011 Fit To Be (Bow) Tied

Mrs. Obama sporting our Resort Bowtie Pin in an unusual way at the dedication of the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial. Michelle is not afraid to experiment in fashion as the First Lady. We give Michelle kudos on her ability to express her fashion sensibility even with the microscope of the world watching her every step.

September 9th, 2011 Fashion's Night Out Par-Tay!

This year for FNO we threw a crazy party. I partnered with the Accessories Director from Vogue, Selby Drummond, who co-designed a bracelet for the event, Lady Fag, who is one of the most original performers in NYC nightlife, Barbie and Lucy Sykes from Rent the Runway. It felt a bit like the old NY clubs I remember from the mid 80s, with the mix of downtown/uptown and all the drag queens in between.

(In order of photos posted)

1) Lady Fag being interviewed by Fashion TV. (Ps- she's a woman.)

2) Meet the Alexis Bittar Barbie. Who would of thought that I would get to have my own Barbie that I designed?!

3) This is Epiphany. Work!

4) Me with Steven Kolb CFDA Executive Director and Stan Herman, past President of the CFDA (far right)

5) Ladies of the night. (L to R: Marlena, Jordan + Pascale)

6) John Ehlers with Jordan.

7) The Selby Cuff.

8) The staff at Soho who held down the fort. (L to R: Kiki, Angela, Dominique + Veronica)

September 1st, 2011 Iris Apfel Turns 90!

Iris is one my favorite women in NYC. Her birthday was Monday so this post is a little late, but that's ok... We met 6 years ago and she and her husband Carl have become my surrogate parents in New York. I love them both. I'm so amazed by their joy of life and their warmth that they so freely show to each other. They've been married for 60+ years and are as affectionate now as if they just met, something I strive towards... Happy Belated Birthday, Iris!

September 2nd, 2011 Fashion's Night Out!

August 10th, 2011 Store Visit in L.A.

Just got back from a whirlwind tour of our stores in L.A. and San Francisco. We presented the Fall Collection and had a little party. Here are some photos of the L.A. visit.

(In order of photos posted)

1) Pascale Cohen with a very chic customer.

2) Here I'm having a conversation with Arianne Phillips. She is one of my favorite stylists. She is incredibly down to earth and supernaturally creative. From styling the movie "Hedwig and the Angry Inch" to "Walk the Line" (for which she was nominated for an Academy Award) to working with Madonna for 10 years. She just styled Madonna's new movie "W.E.".

3) The lovely Elizabeth Matthews from the Costume Council at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.

4) Some young fans. Check out how styled the guy on the left is. It made me smile and reminded me of me as a kid.

5) A very chic couple.

August 11th, 2011 Store Visit in San Francisco

I went to San Francisco to continue the presentation. We decided to create a video that described the process of design, a short bio, and showed the editorial press collection for Fall 2011.

(In order of photos posted)

1) An amazing crowd who were really into the presentation.

2) Mingling in the store.

3) The San Francisco team: Kerry, Erica, Paula and Michael.

August 12th, 2011 Anna Paquin

We love Anna Paquin, from her performance in "The Piano" with Harvey Keitel and Holly Hunter, to her acceptance speech at The Oscars, to now turning it out on True Blood. She was the youngest person to win an Academy Award and wore this amazing El fin/Pixie out-fit which you know she picked out herself. Here she is (below) wearing one of our Miss H necklaces.

August 16th, 2011 OMG- Joan Rivers!!

On Sunday I was at the NY Gift Show and I received a text that Joan Rivers was in my booth and dying to meet me. I rushed back there to see her and she was swarming around the booth pulling jewelry. She apparently is a BIG FAN!! She was super sweet and slightly demure which I know is surprising to think of Joan being demure but there it is.

For everyone who hasn't seen her movie ..you should! It's incredibly funny but has a slightly depressing undertone, partly due to her never ending driven nature to be in the public eye and get work. Unfortunately, Joan Rivers has never been given the credit for paving the way for tons of women comedians; since her debut on the Johnny Carson Show. She fought hard to create a new model and succeeded. I don't think she has any regrets.

July 1st, 2011 Jennifer Hudson

Here are some photos of Jennifer Hudson from her new music video "No One Gonna Love You". She's wearing earrings and a cuff from the Elements Collection and ring from the Miss Havisham Collection. She's been wearing my jewelry for a few years now and she always looks great. As per usual, she looks amazing in this video.

June 1st, 2011 Cuteness Overload

Meet the newest member to the team.

I finally broke down and got a dog. I've been wanting one for 5 years. His name is Habibi, which means "Sweetheart" in Arabic. He's a 12 week old Tibetan Terrier. Already walking with a stick.

June 9th, 2011 CFDA Awards

The CFDA called and asked me to see if I could talk Iris Apfel into presenting the Accessories Award. I knew she wasn't going to take that much convincing.

Here are some pics from that night.

(In order of photos posted)

1) Iris presenting the award to Alexander Wang.

2) Iris and my favorite photographer Bill Cunningham.

3) Marc Jacobs won the Lifetime Achievement Award. It was much deserved.

4) Iris and I.

5) Lady Gaga won the Style Icon Award, she gave an amazing acceptance speech. Here she is standing with her sister, Natali Germanotta who is wearing one of my gold collars from the Spring Collection

6) My motley crew- Pascale Cohen, Iris, Sam Shaw, Jeff Chastain and me.

June 10th, 2011 She Did It Again

Here's Michelle Obama looking absolutely lovely at The White House, hosting Angela Merkel. Mrs. O is looking more like a model every day! She looks beautiful in that gown and, of course, a stacked armful of my bangles.

June 15th, 2011 I Love Cameron Diaz

I love Cameron Diaz. She's been the biggest fan for about 7 years now. Here is what she said about the line, which was so sweet and I didn't even have to twist her arm to say it.

"Every time I wear a piece of Alexis Bittar I always feel that it's the center piece of my outfit... Every piece is a unique work of art, and I never get more compliments on anything, jewelry or clothing wise, than any of the Alexis Bittar pieces that I've been lucky enough to wear. They are truly some of my prized possessions."

Here are a few photos of her wearing a ring and necklace from the upcoming Fall/Winter Miss Havisham line at the MTV Movie Awards last week. I've also put in a few other photos of her just because she's so cute.

June 21st, 2011 Rihanna in Concert

It was fun and intense to design the jewelry for Rihanna's concert. Here she is opening night wearing some Wonder Woman cuffs we made for her.

June 24th, 2011 Fergie and Estelle

Fergie came aboard the AB wagon a few years ago when she did the cover of Rolling Stone. She seems a bit tamer and more graceful from the beginning days of The Black Eyed Peas. That being said, she's still out partying...

Here are some photos of Fergie and Estelle at the party. They are both wearing custom designed green neon jewelry.

May 13th, 2011 The Met Ball

I recently went to the Met Ball which was a tribute to Alexander McQueen and his body of work. My date was the incomparable Lauren Hutton. She was the perfect person to go with, she knows everyone from Mick Jagger to Yoko Ono to a young model like Chanel Iman. Lauren maintains a very down to earth persona even though she's lived a very full life which makes her fun to be around.

The event was star studded and probably packed with more celebrities in art, fashion, music and movies per square meter than any other event. Aside from the dresses, the real highlight of the night was the McQueen Exhibit. The evening ended with Florence + The Machine performing with an overwhelmingly abundance of confidence. She was strutting up to everyone and owning the night. It was the perfect combo because she and McQueen are both REAL talents, not just pretty faces.

Here are few photos of me on the way there and from the exhibit:

April 4th, 2011 Opening Party in Chicago

We recently had our grand opening at Chicago. The Chicagoians came out in full force to represent. We co-hosted with a good friend Rima Suqi who was also launching a book called American Fashion Designers at Home.

(In order of photos posted)

1) Some big fans- mothers and daughters.

2) Munchkin kissing an animal.

3) Giving chic-ness.

4) More chic-ness with Jeanette!

March 15th, 2011 Taxidermy

For the last 5 years I've used taxidermy as an added display feature in my stores. We have worked with Frank J. Zitz & Co to come up with some amazing creations.

Just for the record- all the animals die naturally and are NOT killed.

This year we embarked on "Hybrids". Frank has created new animal species. The picture below is of one of the latest, half giraffe / half horse.

February 11th, 2011 Lauren Hutton and Alexis Bittar

I'm REALLY excited to use Lauren Hutton for the face of Alexis Bittar for 2011. I'm also excited that I got to have my good friend Jack Pierson shoot the campaign. Both of them are iconic in their own fields.

Lauren is an iconic face of the 70's, so natural and refreshing. Her face stood for a decade of fashion. We first met on the street when I was 19 on Prince outside of Jerry's. Having that first experience with her when I was so young makes it even more exciting to have her represent the brand now.

Jack is a pioneer in photography and art. His art has been featured at the MOMA, Guggenheim and countless other museums all over the world. He's from that 80's school of Nan Golden and Cindy Sherman atheistic. His imagery has been knocked off for years. In his photography, he's great at capturing people's natural personality with ease.

Jack and Lauren were the perfect combination and the results are amazing. The imagery of Lauren has a more masculine feeling, reminiscent of Marlene Dietrich in "Morocco".

February 25th, 2011 Collaboration with Jason Wu

This Fall I collaborated with Jason Wu for his Fall 2011 Collection. As usual I am always inspired by Jason's ability to have such tremendous focus.

The Collection was inspired by fusing Baroque with a bit of Goth.

Here are some images of the show and the jewelry that was designed.

(In order of photos posted)

1) Beginning sketch of the necklace with the Baroque closure that the model is wearing.

2) A close up of the necklace.

3) Jason's signature owl we transformed into a pin.

4) First sketch of the bracelet.

5) The final product.

6) Baroque Bracelet on a model during the show.
