What a gorgeous piece! The chain of this Georgian Period necklace is a beautifully, hand-crafted snake link that is graduated to mimic the snake's body. The head and tail are intricately engraved and set with turqoise cabochons and sapphire paste eyes. Hanging from its mouth is a turquoise encrusted heart. Snake motifs began to be used in this early era as a symbol of eternal love, but didn't come to full popularity until later in the Victoria Era after Prince Albert gave Queen Victoria a snake motif engagement ring. This necklace has a hidden front clasp.
