Taille d'epargné or black enamel tracery became a popular decorative element in mid Victorian Period jewelry. Engraved lines forming a design are incised into the metal and are filled with black enamel. The designs themselves were inspired by the tracery work, usually in stone or metal, that adorned gothic windows. These earrings mimic gothic windows with the use of both taille d'epargné enamel and overlayed metalwork with pearl accents. They are in beautiful condition with very little wear to the enamel.
