Alex and Lee

In 2004 I was walking through the Tucson Gem Show and stumbled across this booth of jewelry by Alex and Lee.  I stopped in my tracks because the jewelry was the embodiment of Nastassia Kinski and the YSL collection in Ballet Russe.  It was a combination of  late 70s and a kind of bad pothead hippie aesthetic. Anyway, I was completely manic with excitement and decided to  collaborate with them.

Here are a few photos from that collection:

Alex and Lee started in the 70s in San Fran during the hippie acid rage on Fillmore St.  They were part of  the movement  documented in The Couquettes. Alex died in 1992 but their line continues.  Anyway, our collaboration was a great success for both of us.  Recently their company collaborated with Proenza Schouler and are again on a massive upswing of chicness…
