4,000 feet up, in the mountains of Monistrol de Montserrat in Spain, there is a monastery that was built in the 12th century- although there are records of the sight first being used as a worshiping ground as early as 888 ac.
In order to get there, you either take a tram or an insanely steep railroad to reach the top.
Once you are up there, it is otherworldly and you find yourself out of breath from the thin air.
Here is the tram station, in its old 1930′s building
The steep train.
The distance the tram takes, I have an incredible fear of heights, even though I’m a butch jeweler!
At the top, catching my breath and doing my best pose

Inside the Church.
The amazing thing is that they brought these materials up with no tram or train.
It seems to me that this place should be one of the wonders of the world.
