I had dinner recently with Arianne Phillips. I’ve been talking about her a lot lately. I can’t tell you how impressed I am with her work. It’s the result of creativity, diligence, and a real lack of egotism. She’s been considered one of the best stylists of our time and her work spans both fashion and film. It’s rare that you work with someone in fashion who doesn’t mask an insecurity with pomposity. I often find that people who reach the upper echelon of fashion hierarchy throw ego around. Not Arianne. Hers is beautifully restrained and packed with creativity.
She was just nominated for her second Oscar for W.E., directed by Madonna. I worked with her on the jewelry choices. The movie’s getting panned by the press. But no one is criticizing the impeccable nature of Arianne’s styling.
I decided to give you guys a quick photo set of some of her work (not all of it, just some)…
Here’s Hedwig and the Angry Inch
Walk the Line
3:10 to Yuma
A Single Man
And of course W.E., which you can read about here.
