In Milan we just debuted the collaboration between Alberta Ferretti and me for Spring 2013.

Alberta Ferreti is known for her amazing detail and execution of ready to wear. There is always a femininity to the collection which also reflects the modernity of today.

We decided to sculpt clear Lucite so that it resembled the way the fabric would be pleated. Each bracelet was encrusted with inlaid rectangular and square crystals, which accented the curves and angles of the bracelets. The clothing combined the metallics with a softness for the season. Pink’s new video Blow Me (One Last Kiss) just came out and she’s wearing 3 necklaces designed for the video. She’s gone very feminine and is looking incredibly elegant. Basically, she looks great.

For the last few years I’ve noticed an occasional jet ski speeding around the NYC harbor. I’ve been trying to track down where to rent them and it has alluded me for sometime.

Finally, I found it! Jetty Jumpers in Sheepshead Bay Brooklyn. I took the tour to the Verrazano Bridge, which is about 90 minutes.

There were a total of 7 people who went on the tour. The minute you get onto the Hudson River you can go full throttle, about 65mph.

My boyfriend Matt had never done it before and was apprehensive about being in the Hudson on a jet ski. He weathered it alright, except for a brief collision with a bunch a fishing lines. He had inadvertently got caught like a fly in Charlotte’s Web with 20 fishing lines from fisherman on the pier. It was like something out of a comedy.

After he was untangled we really hit the waves, which was incredible with the outline of NYC in the background.

For those who are aren’t afraid of getting The Hudson water on you and the occasional ship, I highly recommend it.

I designed a crown for Lady Gaga’s new tour. I wanted something futuristic and we slammed it!

Her styling is INCREDIBLE in the interview, the juxtaposition of  her looking like a California girl from 1989 with a massive spike crown on her head is provocative and memorable.

This is Gayle, my first crush ever. I met her when I was 8 years old and she had just moved back to Maine from Colorado. She now resides in Maine and is a 3rd grade teacher.

This year I was the judge for ELLE’s annual FIT fashion competition. I was along side judges Christina Ricci, Alexa Chung, Brad Goreski, Steven Alan and Ken Downing from Neimans, who were all the co-judges of the competition.

There were about 20 contestants and each were tutored by Anne Slowey and Joe Zee from Elle. The top honors are ELLE’s FASHION | NEXT Design Award ($25,000), Maybelline New York Design Awards ($25,000) and a third prize, the People’s Choice Award, worth $10,000, is being chosen by users on ELLE.com.

It’s always a horrible feeling judging someone’s talent, but at the end, I try to analyze their skill, craft, color sensibility and long term potential in the market place.

I was catching up with my parents in North Monmouth, Maine, and got to take a walk through the woods which is one of my favorite things to do. Its amazing what a bit of country can do for the soul. I also noticed an array of mushrooms growing in the wild. Their colors and shapes juxtaposed with the foliage made my camera clicking hands come alive!

Most people during fashion week write about the celebrities and fashion that comes down the runway. To start off fashion week, I wanted to write about the people who are actually making the fashion.

Meet Angchung Angchung.

She was born in Rongshar Tibet. Angchung came to work for me 12 years ago after she escaped Tibet. She is now the head sample maker for the Lucite collection and is charge of doing all the finishing touches in the line. She has one of the most positive attitudes I know, which seems to be a common Tibetan trait.  She’s been one of my favorite people to work with. She is incredibly diligent and caring in her craft .

I asked her what she misses most from Tibet and she said her  family and Tibetan food. Since being in the US she’s had 2 children and created a family. When I asked her what she loves about the US she said she likes that she can go to the movies with her kids, take her son to the park in Elmhurst, Queens and have a life that she is in control of away from China. Her favorite food is MoMo, which is a Tibetan dumpling with meat, onions and masala.

When working on designs she always voices her opinion. Recently we were working on a design for Lady Gaga’s new video and Angchung said…”That’s crazy!!”

She is a bright spot in my day and for that I’m grateful.

Equally as sweet is Michelle’s Mom wearing Alexis Bittar too… I feel like one of the family!

Michelle wore the Leger Mauve pin last night at the Democratic National Convention to accessorize a Laura Smalls’ dress… Looking very lovely!
