Today at 8am I got to step back and see the skyline of Manhattan on the promenade in Brooklyn Heights. Having grown up here my whole life I sometimes take it for granted. It is amazing to see how the city is constantly changing, from the Brooklyn Bridge (built in the 1800s) to this Frank Gehry building that was just completed.  The layering of history is amazing to watch in action… I do love this city.

I thought I’d give a shout out to my local barber/therapist. Meet Serge… at the Clinton Street Barber Shop in Brooklyn Heights.

I go there every week to get my number 2 buzz cut. He has me addicted. The minute my hair grows more than half an inch I feel like it’s shaggy. But the great thing is I also love talking to him. He’s a politically incorrect Russian Jew. Born outside of Moscow, he will still joke about smuggling merchandise in Russia and his escapades in Las Vegas. Recently he got hitched to a beautiful 26 year old Russian lady. His rambunctious ways have been curbed.

When I was a kid I used to be intimidated going into a male barber shop, I was always waiting to be picked on by all the guys. It was always such highly charged testosterone environment. But as an adult, I am such the typical Brooklynite (loud, barber going customer). We all sit around and talk about nothing. It’s pretty nice.
