W.E. finally had its debut screening at MOMA. Madonna’s first directorial debut was anticipated by both the fashion world and the film world. I was not surprised to see how many people showed up to support her. Everyone from Valentino, Andre Leon Talley, Anderson Cooper, Parker Posey to Julian Schnabel and Patti Smith were there to lend their support.

Harvey Weinstein gave an amazing speech to introduce her and as he was talking I had a flashback of Madonna from her first single “Holiday”. From then to now, the trajectory of her career is amazing.
Madonna gave a shout out to Arianne Phillips, the costume designer for the film. Arianne did an amazing job with the details of the period styling. She seems to understand the balance of film and fashion. One of her looks was Wallis in her 70s and it was totally original and showed her skill of creating fashion/art.
The film was well received that night, particularly since it showed support for both Madonna’s existing body of work and for this new step in her career.
