new-years-eve-in-time-square

I like to start the new year by writing out all my goals, personal and business. It gives me a template to run my life by. I just read my last list from the beginning of 2011, I did pretty well. Ok… I’m rambling on and I sound like a dip shit… What I mean to say is, HAPPY NEW YEAR! I wish everyone much happiness and serenity in 2012.

Lady Gaga graced the cover of December’s Vanity Fair. I got to play dress up and assist with the jewels. It’s shot by Annie Leibovitz. Lady Gaga gave the streets of NYC a couture twist.

London’s Calling

Tower Hamlets-20111127-00159

I was just in London shooting our next ad campaign (which will debut in January). I hadn’t been to London in 3 years and I missed it. London is booming right now! It feels like the city is overflowing with people shopping and drinking. Above is a picture of the Tower of London with a modern skyline.

I took some shots and a friend took a short video of me doing a jig with a protestor who was with the Occupy London movement. He looked like a leprechaun and was in his 60s. He did a fierce jig.

Here’s a massive amusement park in the city. I braved it and did some of the scary rides. I’m a total wuss with heights and riding upside down. I honestly don’t see the point, but I felt the pressure from Lori, who is FEARLESS, and must have been a mountain man in a past life.

This is the fearless Lori, having breakfast with me.

Dinner and a Movie

Last night was perfect. I ate at a delicious Mexican restaurant which I rank in my top 5 NYC restaurants. It’s called Mercadito (179 Ave B).

Then, I went to see Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. As a child I had watched the series on PBS in the late 70s. It starred Alec Guinness and is about the cold war in the 1970s. The original series was super complicated and filled with delicious spies.

The film that was just released is a rare example of a remake being even better than the original. The acting was impeccable and the cinematography and styling were so good I felt transported back in time… Seriously!

I hugely recommend this, especially if you like spy movies.

W.E. Premiere in NYC

WE1

W.E. finally had its debut screening at MOMA. Madonna’s first directorial debut was anticipated by both the fashion world and the film world. I was not surprised to see how many people showed up to support her. Everyone from Valentino, Andre Leon Talley, Anderson Cooper, Parker Posey to Julian Schnabel and Patti Smith were there to lend their support.

Harvey Weinstein gave an amazing speech to introduce her and as he was talking I had a flashback of Madonna from her first single “Holiday”. From then to now, the trajectory of her career is amazing.

WE8Madonna gave a shout out to Arianne Phillips, the costume designer for the film. Arianne did an amazing job with the details of the period styling. She seems to understand the balance of film and fashion. One of her looks was Wallis in her 70s and it was totally original and showed her skill of creating fashion/art.

The film was well received that night, particularly since it showed support for both Madonna’s existing body of work and for this new step in her career.
